FMCSA’s Safety Tips for Passenger Vehicle Drivers

Safety is the responsibility of everyone on our roadways – passenger vehicle drivers, truck drivers, bus drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has developed a national safety campaign called Our Roads, Our Safety to raise awareness about how to safely share the road with large trucks and buses.

Large trucks deliver almost all of our food and the consumer goods we purchase to our local stores and warehouses. Buses provide transportation for millions of Americans both locally and across the country. Over twelve million commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) are currently registered for operation on American roadways.

Large trucks and buses have huge blind spots, limited maneuverability, and longer stopping distances. Passenger vehicle drivers need to follow these Ten Rules of the Road to remain safe when encountering these massive vehicles.

  1. Stay Out of Blind Spots.
  2. Pass Safely.
  3. Don’t Cut it Close.
  4. Stay Back.
  5. Anticipate Wide Turns.
  6. Be Patient.
  7. Buckle Up.
  8. Stay Focused.
  9. Don’t Drive Fatigued.
  10. Never Drive Under the Influence

FMCSA’s primary mission is to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities involving large trucks and buses. The Our Roads, Our Safety campaign promotes public safety awareness by providing helpful safe driving tips for the benefit of the full range of American road users.

If you or a loved one have been injured in an accident involving a large truck or bus, please contact Shamberg, Johnson & Bergman for a free consultation. We will only receive a fee in the event of a successful resolution of your case.
