Monica joined the firm in 2022 after graduating from the University of Kansas School of Law. Prior to attending law school, Monica had a 15-year career in health care. In 2009, she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Fort Hays State University and began working as a registered nurse. Monica’s experience as a nurse has extended across many specialties including emergency medicine, trauma, surgical intensive care, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, family medicine, long-term care, and more. In 2016, she graduated from the University of Kansas Medical Center with a Master of Science in Nursing becoming a board-certified nurse practitioner. As a nurse practitioner, Monica worked at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in the Emergency Department caring for patients of all acuity levels. While working in the E.D. as a nurse practitioner, Monica worked on a peer-review committee doing internal reviews investigating sentinel events that occurred in the department. It was through this work, in conjunction with attending several medical legal conferences, that Monica developed a passion for learning and understanding the legal aspects that surround and intersect the practice of medicine.
Working in personal injury and medical malpractice litigation, Monica gets to use her clinical expertise and knowledge of medicine every day to help those people who have been harmed by the healthcare system or by someone else’s negligent conduct. Her experience gives her a unique perspective and insight when evaluating and understanding her client’s cases. As a litigator, Monica strives to advocate for her clients by making it her goal to have a transparent relationship with them, know the intricate details of each case, and be overly prepared.
In her spare time, Monica enjoys gardening, listening to live music, going to the lake, and spending time with her family. She is married to her husband, Drew, who works in finance. She has two young children who are both full of energy.
