Missouri Police Search for Driver Fleeing Scene of Fatal Crash

|

It is an unfortunate reality, but roads are often sites of serious and sometimes fatal automobile collisions. Accident victims and their loved ones often suffer greatly after a negligent driver causes a crash. Through investigation and legal actions, loved ones might be able to recover compensation but this does not make them whole again after the loss of a loved one. Moreover, in matters of a hit-and-run accident, family members of the deceased often suffer tremendously as they seek to locate the driver at fault.

According to recent reports, Missouri police responded to a fatal hit-and-run accident in Independence. The preliminary reports suggest that the incident occurred at the intersection of U.S. 24 and Blue Mills Road.

Following the fatal collisions, authorities believe that the driver that caused the incident fled the scene of the accident on foot. In order to aid their search, police used helicopters in the area to locate the fleeing driver. At the time of this report, authorities have not located the driver. Once located, the driver could face both criminal and civil penalties for fleeing the scene of an accident.

A wrongful death suit could be filed against the negligent driver for the death of the victim if investigators discover the driver was at fault. Loved ones could recover compensation for their loss and use the monetary award to cover medical bills, funeral costs, lost wages, loss of companionship, and other related damages.

A fatal accident is a tragic event that could leave the loved ones of the deceased emotionally and financially harmed. While compensation through a civil action will never make up for the losses they suffered, it could help them offset the monetary damages they incurred due to the fatal incident. In these matters, it is important that loved ones are aware of their legal rights and options so they can take appropriate and timely action that serves their interests.
