We are proud to share that Partner David R. Morantz of Shamberg, Johnson & Bergman has been named the 2026 recipient of the Legacy Award from the Legacy of Justice Foundation (LOJF). David is only the second attorney in the award's history to receive this recognition.
The Legacy of Justice Foundation is a Kansas nonprofit affiliated with the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association, dedicated to preserving the state's civil justice system through education, research, and advocacy. Since its founding in 1981, the Foundation has worked to raise the standard of client representation among trial attorneys, protect the independence of the judiciary, and promote a greater public understanding of the civil justice system. The Legacy Award, which is given to just one recipient each year, honors an individual who has shown true advocacy for the Foundation's mission, made a meaningful impact on promoting fair and transparent courts and court processes, contributed to public education about the justice system, and demonstrated long-term dedication to that work.
David's record of service to the Kansas legal community made him a natural choice for this year's honor. He served as President of the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association from 2019 to 2020, received KTLA's Thomas E. Sullivan Award in 2013 for his promise as a developing leader, and currently serves on the National Center for State Courts Lawyers Committee, where he works directly with state court leaders on issues ranging from jury reform to judicial independence. His nomination, submitted by fellow attorneys Matthew Birch and Richard Budden, was a direct display of the respect he has earned throughout his career. In recognizing David, the Board expressed its gratitude for his tireless efforts to advance the Foundation's mission and promote fair courts throughout Kansas.
David will be formally honored with the Legacy Award during the KTLA Annual Meeting & CLE Seminar this December.
